Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

Please take notice that students will not be able to get an early dismissal after 1:30pm. Please make all appointments accordingly.

MELA students are expected to come directly to school and leave school in the safest manner possible. On the way to and from school, students are to conduct themselves courteously and obey all school and bus rules.

Students begin arriving to the following locations (also refer to map below) where there will be supervision from 7:30-8:00 a.m. Please do not drop students off before 7:30 a.m. as there will be no supervision before this time. The playground is not open before school.

  • At 7:30 a.m., car rider students may enter the building through the front doors . Bus riders and daycare students may enter the building through the back doors of MELA.

  • Students are not allowed on campus before 7:30 a.m.

  • Kindergarten - 5th grade students will report to the cafeteria for breakfast, then are dismissed to go to their class at 7:45 a.m. Pre-K students go directly to their classroom when they enter the building at 7:30 a.m.

  • The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. Students who enter the classroom after 8:05 a.m. are considered tardy to class. This policy applies to ALL students with exception of late buses or other extreme circumstances deemed excusable by the administrators.

Car Line Expectations:

  • Use only the two front lanes for drop-off.

  • Once your student has exited the car, please drive slowly and follow the officer's directions on how to leave the campus.

  • Parents remain in the car. If you want to get out to help your child, you may park in the Field House lot to do this and then walk your student to school through the front doors of the building.

  • Students should only exit from the right side of the car. A duty person will help students exit cars.

Dismissal Plans

Please be sure you have filled out the Dismissal Form provided during enrollment so that there is an accurate record of how your student goes home.

Change of Dismissal Plans

If you need to change your student's regular going home plans for a day, please send an email to mela@millwoodps.org, call the main office at 405-475-1004 or stop by the main office no later than 1:30 p.m. on the day of change. Please do not just send this information to teachers, as they are often unable to check email, or may even have a sub who would not receive the information. The office will then communicate the change to your child's teacher.

Buses

  • Bus students and Boys & Girls Club students are dismissed from the Falcons' Nest where they are checked off before going home on their designated MPS or BGC bus.

Daycares

  • Daycare students are dismissed from the MELA Cafeteria located in the back of the building. Each daycare student is checked off before going home on their designated daycare van. Only students that have been verified to attend a daycare will be permitted to go home on the daycare van.

Walk-Ups

  • We have one staff member to input numbers into our School Safe ID Smart Dismissal system for parents that walk-up (located by the Administration Office) to pick up their student(s). The pick up person must have a School Safe ID tag to pick up their student(s) via Walk-Up.

Car Riders

  • Dismissal begins at 3:00 p.m. Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade students are picked up in the Car Rider line which begins at the entrance near the former LU OKC building and proceeds to the front of MELA via 3 pick up lanes. All parents/guardians must have a School Safe ID Car Rider tag to come through the car line. If you have forgotten it, you will need to park near the Field House, come into the front office, show your license/ID and receive a temporary tag--then join the car line.

  • Please stay in your car with your car tag hung from your rearview mirror, so it is easily seen by dismissal staff to input your unique car tag number. Dismissal staff will work diligently to organize and escort students safely to their car and in a timely manner.
