Dear Falcon Family,
At Millwood Public Schools, we have always prided ourselves on being pioneers. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or throughout our community, the Falcon Way is about leading with purpose and preparing our students for the future. Today, I am excited to share an important milestone for our district. Millwood High School is now home to one of the largest public school solar installations in the state of Oklahoma, a meaningful step forward in strengthening our schools through innovation and long-term financial stewardship. We are nearing completion of a 276-kilowatt solar installation at our high school. With 531 high-efficiency panels now in place, the system is projected to offset approximately 44% of the building’s electricity use and significantly reduce long-term energy costs.
Why this matters for our community:
● Financial Stewardship: Millwood High School has historically represented a significant portion of our district’s energy usage. By harnessing solar energy, we are reducing utility costs and creating the opportunity to reinvest those savings directly into classrooms, programs, and student support.
● A "Living Laboratory" for STEM: This project creates new learning opportunities for our students. Real-time energy production data will be visible on campus, allowing our robotics, science, and technology students to engage directly with the systems powering their school. Our students are not just learning about the future of energy. They will experience it firsthand.
● Leading Through Innovation: As one of the largest public school solar projects in Oklahoma, this investment demonstrates how schools can embrace forward-thinking solutions that strengthen financial stability while supporting student learning and growth.
I would like to extend a special thank you to our facilities team, especially Lonnita Long, for her leadership and coordination, and to our partners who helped bring this project to life with no upfront cost to our district. This milestone reflects what is possible when we think boldly about the future of our schools. We are strengthening our financial foundation and expanding opportunities for our students.
Thank you for being part of this exciting moment for Millwood. The future at Millwood is bright.
Proudly,
